Rose

A cloth and clay doll

inspired by the dolls of 19th century dollmaker,

Izannah Walker.

(I am so proud of this months offering, mainly because her expression turned out so cute!)

This gorgeous doll stands 16 1/2 inches tall

and is completely handmade of cloth and clay.

She has a head and shoulderplate made of paperclay and sculpey from an Alabama Baby mold by Deanna Hogan.

Her body is cloth canvas, and her arms and legs have been sealed with gesso and hand painted.

Her face is hand painted with brown eyes and brown hair,

with the signature "Izannah curls" in front of each ear.

All painted parts have then had a crackle medium and antique glaze applied

to give her an aged patina.

She has also been sealed with a protective coat.

She wears 3 layers of garments,

starting with pantaloons made of a sturdy cotton,

and trimmed with 2 rows of tucks and vintage cotton eyelet lace.

Her petticoat is made of a very fine swiss batiste,

also with 2 rows of tucks and trimmed with a gorgeous french lace.

Finally her dress is made from a brick red high quality reproduction cotton print.

The sleeves and hem are lined with a tan stripe repro cotton fabric,

and trimmed with a row of fine black gimp braid.

with a handmade mixed media art tag!
